I've just found Niagra's live performance on YouTube. Man, she looks hot in that outfit. Again que de souvenirs....

Muriel Moreno, Niagara and Que de souvenirs...

The year was 1990. My then-girlfriend was from San Sebastian, Spain (she was una Basque). Wonder what she's doing these days. The last time I saw her was in New York circa 1997.

Anyway I first heard the song "Pendant que les champs brulent" by Niagra at a Fnac store in Paris. I think I went there to have some rolls of film developed. Yeah, back then you had to go to a place like Fnac to print the pictures you took.

While I was wondering around the music section of the store, they played the song. It was love at first listen. Muriel's husky voice and the hypnotic rhythm were simpley irresistible and I bought the CD right away. Back then a CD cost about 120 francs or so...

For the next few weeks, my girlfriend and I played the song so many times in her beaten down burgundy Renault...

Muriel Moreno was an art history student in Rennes and one night, in a bar she meets Daniel Chenevez, a musician who is looking for a singer for his band called Niagara. The last as they say is history. In 1990 "Pendant que les champs brulent" was one of the most popular French songs.

I wish I had gone to one of Niagara's shows while I was living in Paris...Oh well...It's too late to regret...
